Sophrology is a structured mind body awareness method, created to produce optimal health and well-being. It consists of a series of easy-to-do physical and mental exercises that, when practiced regularly, lead to a healthy, relaxed body and a calm, alert mind.
Sophrology combines deeply relaxing mind-body practices, such as dynamic relaxation, breathing, visualisations and auto-genetic training (AT is a technique that teaches your body to respond to your verbal commands. Commands can tell your body to relax, and control breathing, heartbeat, temperature. AT in Sophrology helps to reduce stress in pressure moments) all practices in Sophrology help to stimulate cognitive functions and vitality.
The combination of physical and mental techniques promotes wellbeing and harmony through awareness of the relationship between the Mind and Body. Enabling you to recognise your behaviours discover your inner resources and strengths.
The exercises are called dynamic relaxation (relaxation in movement). The ultimate aim is to become fully present, fully alive and fully participating, comfortably and joyfully, in all areas of life.
After starting to practice Sophrology, some of the things that noticeably change are: more restful sleep, greater focus and concentration, feelings of inner joy and awareness, fewer worries, increased self-confidence.
The aim is to focus on the structure of consciousness and NOT the content. Eg. We focus thinking about happy moments so that we can discover how our body is when it is happy. It is not important what type of happy moment or what is happening within the happy moment. Notice the physical sensations.
